Buchholz StatewideSaturday, March 17, 2012MAJOR CHANGES FOR THIS COMPETITION-
The Algebra 2 division will be called Theta instead of Algebra 2. Anyone who is Theta eligible (as stated in the Sponsor’s Guide) can compete in this division. No other division will be affected. These tests (Theta Individual and Team) were written to be a warm up for the State Convention. It is approximately 80% Algebra 2 and 20% Geometry
Who does this benefit? EVERYONE IN ALGEBRA 2 AND GEOMETRY. Why? Since the Algebra 2 students must take Theta tests at State Convention this will allow them a little practice in their Geometry that might be rusty. Stronger Geometry students might opt for the Theta division instead of the Geometry division. This means that some Geometry students who don't normally win trophies will have a better chance to pick up a trophy because some students will be competing in the Theta division.
Sweepstakes: Since this is the last competition before the state convention, we have set it up to be a warm up for the state championship. Sweepstakes will be exactly like State Convention with the sum of the Calculus (Mu), Pre-Calculus (Alpha) and Theta divisions. Geometry and Statistics will have their normal divisions but not count toward Sweepstakes.
Teams: Based on lower enrollment in past March State-Wide competitions we are planning on seating 2 teams( 4 person only ) instead of having opens. Many students have told us in the past they like team round better than open so we will try this. If enrollment comes in higher than expected and we must abandon the 2 team idea because of space limitations we will add open tests.
Sponsor Job Assignments: We will continue the Buchholz tradition of handling all jobs internally. Sponsors can relax and not worry about being assigned jobs. Bring a book or some tests to grade to keep yourself busy.
Trophies: The number of individual trophies in each division will be based on enrollment. Divisions that are heavily enrolled will have the traditional 20 individual trophies awarded. Divisions with weak enrollment will have less than 20.
Proceeds: All profits for this competition are being donated to needy families in our community. All test writers have donated their tests. Our principal has donated the school and all copy expenses. The only cost is the trophies and the sweepstakes trophies have been donated by Buchholz as well. Hopefully we will raise alot of money to help some kids who are less fortunate economically than the kids who are competing.
1. The competition will take place at Buchholz High School. Address: 5510 NW 27th Ave Gainesville Florida.
2. The deadline for online registration is March 3, 2012, and this WILL be adhered to. The registration form is in the sponsor’s guide found at www.floridamao.org.
3. School results will be printed for your convenience. The tests and results will be found after the competition at www.floridamao.org.
4. You WILL need to bring your highlighted enrollment list as downloaded from www.floridamao.org with the participating competitors’ names and ID#s highlighted
